Install your eSIM on an iPhone
Written for iOS 26. Older versions use the same steps, but some menus are called "Cellular" or "Mobile Data" instead of "Mobile Service".
Before you start
- Install it at home, on Wi-Fi, before you travel. The install needs internet.
- Keep your order page open: it has your install link, QR code and codes. Find your order
- Your iPhone must support eSIM and not be locked to a carrier. Check your phone
Option 1: one tap on the iPhone itself
The quickest way. Works on iOS 17.4 and later.
- Open your order page on the iPhone you'll travel with.
- Tap Install on this iPhone. Your iPhone's eSIM set-up opens.
- Tap Continue, and follow the steps under “While it installs”.
Option 2: scan the QR code
- Open your order page on another screen, such as a computer or tablet.
- On the iPhone, open Settings › Mobile Service › Add eSIM.
- Tap Use QR Code, and point the camera at the QR code on your order page.
- Tap Continue, and follow the steps below.
Option 3: enter the details by hand
Use this if you can't scan, for example if you only have the one phone.
- On the iPhone, open Settings › Mobile Service › Add eSIM › Use QR Code.
- Tap Enter Details Manually.
- Copy each value into its box:
SM-DP+ address
Shown on your order page
Activation code
Shown on your order page
Open this guide from your order page to copy your own, or find your order.
- Leave Confirmation Code empty, and tap Next.
While it installs
Your iPhone asks a few questions. Here's what to choose:
- Label your new line. Choose Custom Label and type landfall, so it's easy to find later. Your usual line keeps its name, such as “Primary”.
- Default line (calls and messages): keep your usual line.
- iMessage and FaceTime: keep your usual line.
- Mobile Data: keep your usual line for now; you'll switch to landfall when you land. Turn Allow Mobile Data Switching off, so your iPhone doesn't use your usual line abroad.
When it's done, landfall appears under Settings › Mobile Service. Leave it switched off until you land.
When you land
- Open Settings › Mobile Service › landfall, and turn on Turn On This Line.
- In the same screen, turn on Data Roaming. Travel eSIMs always roam, even where the network is local, so this is needed.
- Go back to Settings › Mobile Service › Mobile Data, and choose landfall.
- To avoid charges from your home carrier, open your usual line in Mobile Service and turn its Data Roaming off.
- Give it a minute to find a network. Still nothing? Turn Aeroplane Mode on, wait ten seconds, and turn it off.
Didn't work?
- It says "No SIM" or "SIM not supported": Will a Landfall eSIM work on my phone?
- No data after landing: It isn't connecting. What should I check?
- Not sure when your days start: When do my days start?
- The code was refused, or the install stopped halfway: don't try the code again. Contact us with your order number and a screenshot.
